I hate to think that I'm not contributing anything to this message board, just questions.
Anyway I was wondering if anybody had any tips about working with a somewhat amature cast. I myself am an extremely poor actor. The main problem is speaking alot of people sound like they're reading aloud.
Any hints?

But all the ones with any previous expierence are girls, I, silly script writer that I am gave some of the guys lines that aren't mono-sallybic.
Hopefully this will give them some training, are there any excersises, like pronouncing lines that are useful.

Someone on hostboard has a signature quote which says the following:
"Joe Public is NOT a good actor."
It doesn't get any simpler than that. No tips will change this and your final film will stink of amateurism by using friends and family as actors.
If you are using 'non' actors then dont let them try to act.
Dont expect them to act.
Dont give them lines that need to be 'acted'.
What I mean is you have to cast them into the roles that they are the most like, so that they arent so much as acting as being themselves - all be it with lines from a script.
A good way of relaxing with lines is to sing them, or say them in stupid ways, or in innappropriate accents, whatever, roll the lines around your mouth in different ways until you get to understand what they mean. This means Rehearsals.
Run a few rehearsals to find who suits which character the best.
Allow them to improvise and have fun. Actors (everyone) work the best when they are enjoying themselves.
Let them mess around a little and get a feel for the people they are meant to be and let them run with it.
If you try and impose too grand a scheme on them at this stage their performances will stink and you will let them down when they see the final thing.
Just have fun with the script and try to all learn together.
Why not work with semi - proffesional actors instead ? they are not that hard to come by

What Kev said is right... I was gonna shoot a film last November, with my friends. I ran about for a couple of weeks like a mad thing sorting it all out (Camera, locations, make up artist, ect) spent nearly ?100 (a lot of my own money!), and then the day of shooting, my mates didn't turn up.
"Nah, we didn't wanna do it"...
F**K them all! Use people who WANT to act, people who DO act and people you you use not 'just coz their your friends'. Although your mates may fall out with you, it'll make your films look better! (and you may also make NEW friends!)
